The Deacons, Priests, and Bishop in My Parish
My parish is St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre. The ordained deacon at my parish is Deacon Tom McDaid. There are several priests at my church. Father German Villabon was born in Fallon, Colombia and is known for his ministry to Spanish-speaking Catholics at my parish. Father James Hansen is a graduate from Kellenberg who spent time studying in Rome for four years and is very grateful for his proximity to both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. Father Ryan Creamer grew up in the parish of St. Patrick's in Bayshore and studied for priesthood at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. Father Seth N. Arwo-Doqu was born and raised in Ghana and knew he wanted to be a priest since the age of twelve. Lastly, Monseigneur William Koening is the Cathedral rector. The new bishop at my parish is Bishop John O. Barres was appointed the fifth bishop of the diocese of Rockville Centre by Pope Francis on December 9, 2016. Religious Life The two different types of priests are parish priets and religious priests. While they share many similarities, there are also some differences that set them apart. Each priest goes through years of education and preperation and the seminary, and all priests are ordained to preach the Gospel. Most importanlty, all priests administer the sacraments. The differences between the two types of priests are distinguished by the vows and promises they made in ordination. |
